It’s an exciting time for Novant Health UVA Health System. As our Health System enters its second year, we are ready to share our mission and vision with you — the patients who live in the communities we serve in Culpeper, Haymarket and Manassas, as well as the neighborhoods in between.
Our patients are at the center of everything we do. Which is why our mission and vision revolve around the patient experience. We are here to improve the health of our communities while delivering the most remarkable patient experience.
This commitment keeps us busy. I’m proud to highlight more of the programs and services that meet the growing needs of our communities in this issue of Healthier Together. One event that first brings so many of our families to our three medical centers is the birth of a baby. In this issue, we profile Ashleigh Zylstra, a mom who delivered at Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center. She is one of hundreds of expectant moms who use our abundance of special amenities to create a birthing experience that their entire family will cherish.
Other families will come to us in need of lifesaving treatments. For stroke patients, our new telestroke program delivers a faster diagnosis and treatment. This program connects patients via video link when necessary to a stroke specialist such as Duane Campbell, MD, ensuring access to expertise that can prevent long-term stroke damage.
And we continue to expand specialized care so our patients don’t have far to travel. Heart patients can now see two clinical cardiologists at their new location at Novant Health UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center Cardiology, which opened in January.
Also in this issue: What you need to know about our behavioral health services. It is estimated that almost 20 percent of the population have a behavioral health disorder, but few seek treatment. We are trying to reach those in need before they find themselves in a crisis. That’s why we are launching Open Minds, a series of community education events highlighting our behavioral health services and answering questions.
As you can see, we are offering accessible, high-quality compassionate care for everyone who walks through our doors. It’s what we like to call the remarkable patient experience — and it’s something we provide one patient at a time.
