Orthopedics and sports medicine on the rise
Our orthopedics and sports medicine program is growing throughout the joint operating company footprint. The sports medicine team, including athletic trainers, primary care sports medicine physicians and orthopedists work together to provide education and remarkable care to our athletes, weekend warriors and other active members of our community.
This year, we have provided over 500 hours of medical coverage for our community partners: Northern Virginia Soccer Club, Virginia Soccer Association, Culpeper Soccer Club, Gainesville Haymarket Youth Football (Grizzlies), Manassas Youth Football (Sharks), NOVA BMX, Novant Health UVA Heath System Prince William Half Marathon and Girls on the Run.
Also in 2017, we have provided over 150 hours athletic trainer sub coverage for PWCS, Culpeper County Schools, Fauquier County Schools, Seton School, and Manassas Park schools. Our primary care and orthopedic physicians have volunteered their time as on the field team physicians for local school football games.
Join us for our upcoming orthopedic physician lectures:
- Dec. 6: Bart Hosick, MD, presenting on hip and knee pain
- Jan. 17: Kevin Peltier, MD, presenting on rotator cuff injuries and treatment options
- Feb. 7: Armin Harandi, MD, presenting on common causes of knee pain and treatment options
- Feb. 21: John Kim, MD, presenting on MAKOplasty
Community ‘meets the robot’ at Haymarket Medical Center
Students, community members and team members enjoyed test driving the da Vinci surgical robot earlier this month. Surgeons met with community members to share information about the minimally invasive surgery program at Haymarket Medical Center. Our newest urologist in the system, Kambiz Tajkarimi, MD, shared his experience using the device with members from the local active adult communities and even guided them through using the da Vinci Surgical System on display.
High school students from the Brentsville High School robotics team and Battlefield High School robotics team each got to try their hand at simulating a surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System, with multiple students scoring 99.9 percent on their simulation test. We may have up-and-coming surgeons in our midst!
