Steve Smith, MD, named vice president of medical affairs for Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center and Haymarket Medical Center
Steve Smith, MD, has been named the new vice president of medical affairs for Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center and Haymarket Medical Center, beginning March 12.
He has served as regional medical director of emergency services at Novant Health UVA Health System since 2009. In this role, he provided oversight and quality assurance for the delivery of emergency services while also implementing and supporting operational efficiencies and prioritizing the patient experience. Steve served as the medical staff president at Prince William Medical Center from 2014 through 2017. His partnership with hospital administration and service line leadership has greatly enhanced operations while ensuring quality care is being delivered to the community. He has also served on the board of trustees for Novant Health UVA Health System.
Welcome Joe Lavelle, senior director of Novant Health UVA Health System Medical Group operations
Joe Lavelle, MBA, FACHE, is our new senior director of Novant Health UVA Health System Medical Group operations. He brings a wealth of healthcare leadership experience to his role having recently served as interim chief administrative officer at Thorek Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he developed the organization’s physician hospital organization for tighter alignment among the hospital, medical staff and payors, and led the organization’s hospital acquisition and integration process. Prior to his tenure with Thorek Memorial Hospital, Joe was a senior consultant with Atlanta-based Legacy Consulting Group.
He also previously served as chief operating officer and senior vice president of the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, and vice president and administrator for Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, where he implemented models for physician engagement, physician professional services contracting and physician coleadership of the cardiac service line. His efforts aligned 56 cardiologists and surgeons with a focus on care protocol standardization, research trials, market expansion and key physician recruitment.
Joe will lead our medical group’s delivery of quality, compassionate and culturally competent care to patients and will partner with service lines around strategy and growth to meet the needs of our communities. |
