RobertAs a Patient Services Coordinator for Novant Health Pediatric Cardiology, Robert Dayton is responsible for a lot of the day-to-day duties, including patient check in, check out, insurance verification and authorization, daily workquest and scheduling appointments. If you ask Robert’s colleagues, his commitment to the patient experience is admirable. When Robert isn’t at work, he’s most likely spending time with his family, including his wife, three kids and granddaughter. Did we mention he also plays hockey? Read the interview below to learn more about Robert and his constant effort to bring his best self to work each day.

Describe a recent event when you knew you were performing exactly the right job duties at exactly the right place at exactly the right time.
One day, a mother called the clinic very upset because she and her son were walking around lost. I asked the mom to tell me where she was. Once I found out where they were located, I told her to stay put. I then left the office to go find the mom and child, and I personally walked them back to the clinic. At the end of their visit, I walked them back to their car to make sure they didn’t get lost again. This brought me so much joy. We have all been lost, and it’s always frustrating. I was happy I could help this mother and son in small, but impactful way.

Which Novant Health value do you associate most with while performing your work duties?
I associate the most with the values of compassion, personal excellence and courage.

What thoughts would you share to inspire those who are striving to make their mark at Novant Health?
I would tell them to always be the best they can be. If you try your best, and do the best job you can do every day, the motto of “hard work pays off” will absolutely ring true. I would also tell them to never give up on trying to exceed expectations. We all can make a difference!

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy playing hockey and spending time with my grandchildren, Kendal and Jericho.

If you had one week of mandatory, guilt-free couch rest, what would be first on your binge-watch list?
I love investigation shows, so I would say FBI files.

What is your least favorite vegetable?
Brussel sprouts.
