Why are star ratings not listed for some providers?
- We partner with Novant Health UVA Health System Medical Group, the University of Virginia and community independent providers to bring the best health to our communities.
- Star ratings come from surveys that we are only able to send to Novant Health UVA Health System Medical Group providers.
- A provider’s star rating is only displayed if 25 or more patients submit surveys for that provider during a 12 month period. This is to ensure that ratings are fair and statistically valid.
- Although we don’t have star ratings for every provider, you can rest assured that all of our medical staff members have their patient outcomes reviewed to verify they deliver care that meets our expectations.
How are ratings and comments obtained?
The ratings and reviews seen on provider profiles are gathered from patient surveys, which are conducted by an independent patient satisfaction organization called Press Ganey. This trusted vendor is used by hospitals and government agencies throughout the U.S., and ensures the information we provide is not biased.
How are star ratings calculated?
The star ratings are based on patient responses to 10 questions focused on provider communication that are included on the survey. . Responses are converted to a 5-point rating system and applied consistently to all providers for the 10 measures.
Are all reviews posted?
The reviews that appear on provider profiles are taken directly from the care provider section of the Press Ganey surveys submitted during a 12-month period. While we are committed to publishing both positive and negative comments, we also maintain a rigorous process to review and remove comments that are profane, libelous, unrelated to the provider, or violate patient privacy. Published comments are not edited in any way.
How does Novant Health UVA Health System protect patient information?
All patient survey responses are stored on a password protected server. Patient names are not displayed and comments that contain personal, identifiable information are not published.
