Are my children allowed to visit after I've delivered my baby?

Siblings are allowed to visit; however, if they are under age 12 they must be accompanied by an adult, other than yourself, at all times.

Can my children accompany me into the labor and delivery rooms?

Yes; however, siblings under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult, other than yourself, at all times at Prince William and Haymarket medical centers. Siblings of any age, must be accompanied by an adult at all times at Culpeper Medical Center.

What are the postpartum visiting hours and policy for family and friends?

At our Prince William and Haymarket medical centers no children under age 12, except siblings; siblings must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Learn more about visitor policies and services. At our Culpeper Medical Center, children of any age are permitted but must be have adult supervision at all times.

Are meals provided for my spouse or support person?

Meals are provided for the new mother and infant. In addition, there is also a kitchen in the birthing center that is equipped with light snacks such as soup and juice. Our hospital has a wonderful cafe with reasonable prices and a coffee shop located just off the main entrance.

Will my baby stay with me the entire time?

At our Prince William and Haymarket medical centers, after the delivery, you are encouraged to keep your baby with you as much as you like. While the nursery is available, rooming-in with your little one provides an opportunity for you to bond and care for your baby right away. At Culpeper Medical Center we do not offer nursery services for your infant.

May my spouse or support person stay overnight with me?

Yes, the birthing center has private postpartum rooms, which include private showers, for all new mothers. There is also a comfortable pull-out sofa that can accommodate one adult.

How long will I be in the hospital after delivery?

For a vaginal delivery with no complications, you and your baby will be discharged to go home 24 to 48 hours after your baby arrives. For a C-section delivery, you will be discharged two to three days after birth if everything is going well. This will allow time to relax, get more rest and bond with your baby in your own environment.

May I see the new birthing center prior to my delivery date?

Yes, tours of all the Novant Health UVA Health System facilities are offered regularly. Tours fill up quickly, so please register several months prior to your due date. To register, call 1-855-311-8538.

What security measures are in place to ensure the safety of my baby?

We have state-of-the-art technology in place to ensure your safety and that of your newborn. The birthing center was designed with safety, security and comfort as top priorities. Security measures at the birthing center will be explained in detail on the tours and when you are admitted.

Are my other children allowed to stay overnight with me after I deliver?

The birthing center cannot accommodate children overnight. We suggest that you make plans for the care of your baby's siblings well in advance of your due date.

How many people can accompany me in the labor and delivery rooms?

At our Prince William and Haymarket medical centers, the policy allows three visitors at one time in the labor and delivery rooms. No children under age 12, except siblings; siblings must be accompanied by an adult. We encourage the adult responsible for the baby's siblings to be someone other than the spouse or support person.

At our Culpeper Medical Center we allow 24/7 visitation and a 4 person limit in the labor rooms.
